Racing in the Caribbean? Sounds like a plan!
3 cars were shipped out to Bushy Park race circuit in Barbados for the inaugural Top Gear Festival in the West Indies.
On arrival, we found the cars and shuffled them into the garages. Surprisingly ‘International’ in feel, the circuit looked good from here, with the whole lap visible.
The garages hosted cars from GRC competitors to our Lola, D type and 599GTO, as well as many cars from Bajan race teams and at the far extreme, Lewis Hamilton’s 2012 Petronas F1 car including driver.
Each day comprised of a few head to head races, of about three laps, GRC stages as part of a championship, dragsters (including a JCB and Reliant Robin football!), and the odd sideways lap from The Stig and Top Gear presenters in various supercars.
Holly took the Lola out, heading up against Charles in the ‘D’ type, a Jaguar XJR12 an 8ltr Bentley and a GT40. The circuit is a twisty, undulating tussle on a slightly dusty surface, one left-hander was catching a few cars out, including Lewis Hamilton!
Marino took to the wheel of the 599 GTO, which he put through its paces against an Enzo and an F40. Although quieter and more understated than the others it certainly proved itself, with a win in all sessions.
The two days at Bushy Park were a real treat, and certainly this little circuit has got huge potential for more.
Huge thanks to the Top Gear team for a tremendous few days on a beautiful island.
