About
Company History
Originally based on a concept close to sending one’s children out to work, Ten Tenths started with Nick Mason’s own collection of sports and racing cars as the nucleus of the fleet.
It soon became apparent that far wider range of cars was required, and a database was introduced. Friends, like-minded enthusiasts, dealers and eventually race teams, importers and manufacturers signed up.
Within two years over 3,000 cars were registered, and this list has continued to grow over the last fifteen years. It also now encompasses most forms of transport, including yachts, bikes (three seater pedal bike or penny farthing- no problem, Sir), - planes (we have access to a private WWI Airfield), and helicopters.
EXPERIENCE
The Ten Tenths team comprises of three engineers, all with race experience from Formula One to Vintage Austins, and two film specialists, who apart from being mechanically minded, hold race and race instructor licences, HGV licences and most important of all, calm and cheerful dispositions.
Mike Hallowes who oversees the company has had experience as motor dealer, race team manager, service manager and location link man. He still retains enormous enthusiasm for vintage racing and rallying as well as location catering.
Ten Tenths now prides itself on being one of the leading vehicle suppliers to the media and welcomes enquiries from all areas.
Nick Mason
After leaving school Nick went on to the Regent Street Polytechnic, where he spent five years training as an Architect. During this period however, further studies were interrupted when he became a founding member of the successful rock band Pink Floyd. As Nick says "I haven't managed to get back yet...."
The band has been playing now for over thirty years, and still enjoys world wide acclaim; they are in the Guinness Book of Records for the album that has been in the American charts continuously for the longest period of time, this being Dark Side of the Moon. The two most recent tours played to over 9.8 million people.
Nick has never envisioned Pink Floyd as the be all and end all. Like the other members of the band his interests covered many areas. In conjunction with his musical career he has freely pursued another great love - motor sport. Nick now has a considerable collection of racing cars spanning the history of motor sport from 1901 to the present day.
The Team
As well as Nick, Mike Hallowes, Charles Knill-Jones and Henry Brooks are all historic motor sports enthusiasts or competitors. Nick is running a variety of his classic collection from the 1901 Panhard et Levassor to the more recent McLaren F1 GTR. Other vehicles frequently to be seen at various historic events include Bugatti Type 35B, Maserati 250F, Maserati Birdcage, Frazer Nash and Ferrari 250GTO.
Charles has restored several vehicles including Bugattis and a military Austin Seven wireless car and is responsible for the day to day well being of the collection.
Henry is our man 'on location' and attends the various shoots for which we are commissioned to supply vehicles and assists with the clients obtaining the best from our service.
